Year 7 transition
Securing a place in Year 7 at Brigshaw High School

Uniform

Parents/carers must ensure that students arrive to school in the correct school uniform. Uniform is checked during our daily meet and greet at the front of the school. Parents/carers can purchase additional uniform via ParentPay. Students can purchase uniform at Student Services using their ParentPay balance.

  • Black school blazer with the Brigshaw logo
  • Plain white long or short sleeved shirt with stiff collar with a stiff collar fastened at the neck
  • Plain black trousers, ideally with the Brigshaw logo to ensure their suitability. However, if you would rather purchase trousers from elsewhere they must be plain black, regular or tailored fit (not skinny fit), long enough to reach the shoe and must not feature zip or additional accessories.
  • Knee length pleated skirt, ideally with the Brigshaw logo to ensure their suitability. However, if you would rather purchase a pleated skirt from elsewhere you are welcome to. For the academic year 2023/24 students may continue to wear their already purchased straight style skirts until they have grown out of it.
  • Black footwear – no trainers, boots, heels, canvas shoes, shoes without backs or pumps will be allowed. Shoes must not have fashion accessories such as buckles, bows or studs
  • Plain black socks must be worn, not trainer socks
  • School tie, in house colour (clip on)
  • Students require a school bag which can fit an A4 workbooks.
  • A plain black belt may be worn but must be discrete, and have a small, sensible buckle
  • Optional school v-neck jumper (male and female) with full length sleeve
  • Tights must be plain black opaque (not patterned) and a minimum of 40 denier. Nothing else should be worn on top or under the tights such as additional socks.

Joining Brigshaw High School

Brigshaw is a popular choice for parents/carers and pupils reflecting the confidence they have in Brigshaw. Pupils come to us from Allerton Bywater, Kippax, Great Preston, Little Preston, Swillington, Micklefield, Methley, Garforth and the outer Leeds suburbs. We have around 1400 pupils on roll, including 200 in our Sixth Form.

We are a very successful school and we are rightly proud of our pupils’ achievements and the opportunities we offer. We all commit to providing a cradle to career curriculum that gives students lives of choice and opportunity.

Our admissions page can be found here.

If you have any questions, or would like to speak to a member of staff about joining Brigshaw High School, please contact office@brigshaw.com.

The Transition Process

We work closely with our primary schools to make sure that the transition to Brigshaw High School is as smooth as possible. The benefits of our comprehensive transition process are:

  • Pupils arrive at Brigshaw confident and secure in their next step.
  • Parents are both fully aware and informed at all stages of how school life will change.
  • Pupils are allocated to a suitable form and teaching group, based on pastoral and academic information from primary school.
  • Learning is able to begin quickly and efficiently in September.

We visit every child in May of Year 6 to start to build relationships. During the summer term our Festival of Transition gives primary schools which form part of the Brigshaw Learning Partnership (BLP) the opportunity to learn at Brigshaw with their Year 6 teacher and also to be taught by our staff. Pupils joining Brigshaw from outside of the BLP are also invited to attend the Festival of Transition to support their move to High School. If students need additional support in making this transition, we have teams of support staff to help. We encourage regular communication with teaching staff and parents/carers to ensure that the move to high school is a positive experience.

Once at Brigshaw, the year 7 curriculum aims to help bridge the gap from primary to secondary school, building on the excellent work at Key Stage 2 and making the most of specialist staff.
