Exploring EU politics
Sixth formers Ellie Dickinson and Joe Smith joined twenty seven secondary schools and colleges from across England in London’s historic Lancaster House to debate and make decisions on the Arab Spring and economic growth. The event was organised by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, the British Council and the European Commission and was held during International Education Week.
Each school represented one of the twenty seven EU Member States, the European Commission or General Secretariat of the Council. Joe and Ellie represented Spain.
Ellie Dickinson, Year 12 said: “It was a very realistic set up to an actual EU council which gave a good insight into what exactly happens in the European Union. At the end of the day, the council reached a draft resolution to be put forward to the European Council. We both thoroughly enjoyed the fun of debating and excitement of the experience and hope to bring a very similar mock council to Brigshaw soon!”
