Brigshaw's battlefields visit
We’ve recently returned from a cold and snowy Belgium and France. As part of our History curriculum our Year 9 pupils travelled to Belgium and France to witness the memorial parks and cemeteries of the WWI battlefields around the Somme and Ypres.
We learned much about the plight of the soldiers who fought in World War I and it was very useful to visit the area and bring ‘real life’ into classroom study.
We also found time for fun and games too – we enjoyed bowling, games and Belgian cuisine – chips, chips and as much chocolate as you could manage to eat!
Everyone involved had a fantastic time learning new things, experiencing history and making new friends. One Year 9 pupil summed up the learning experience quite aptly, saying: “It’s been brilliant. The ‘Last Post’ ceremony at the Menin Gate was incredible - it sent a shiver up my spine and put a lump in my throat.”
