Mathematics

Why study Maths

Mathematics is a core subject in the National Curriculum and many of the numerical and statistical skills that you will develop will be of use to you in adult life.

Mathematics also helps develop your critical thinking and trains you to approach problems in a logical manner.  It encourages you to look for patterns and generalisations and to explain why they do or don’t exist.  Mathematics allows you to think abstractly – solving problems that require you to use your imagination and think differently!

What will I study?

You will continue to develop the topics in Number and Calculations, Algebra, Space, Space, and Handling Data that you have covered during Years 7, 8 and 9. A very important part of the course is being able to use and apply the mathematical knowledge and skills you are acquiring to solve problems based on real-life situations.

What skills will I develop?

The course seeks to develop the mathematical knowledge, logical thinking and analytical skills that you will need in an increasingly sophisticated and technological world.  It will support your studies in other subjects and help you prepare for college, university and employment.
