Business Studies

Why study Business Studies?

You may be interested in how firms market their products and influence us to buy them; why formal accounts are produced and what they mean; how business affects society in both positive and negative ways. You may want a career in the business world, such as accountancy, banking or administration or you might want to become self employed or even an entrepreneur of the future. Studying Business will help you understand these and many other issues in the business world.

What will I study?

During this course you will learn about small businesses and larger organisations. You will discover how small businesses are set up and what skills are needed to run them. You will look at how large businesses market their products, how they recruit and train staff and how they ensure that they make a profit.

What skills will I develop?

Much of your work will be based on how businesses operate in the real world so you will gain some practical business skills. Also, you will develop your ICT skills, learn how to work effectively in groups, enhance your basic communication skills - from formal writing to presentations and you’ll increase your numeracy skills through the examination of business data.
