From the age of fourteen there’s much more choice as to which combinations of subjects and qualification routes our pupils can take. For the majority, two-year GCSE courses, or equivalent, will provide the main learning pathways.
To ensure that all young people are equipped with knowledge, understanding and core qualifications, a number of courses are compulsory. These are: English, Languages, Mathematics, Science, Physical Education, and PHSCE (including Citizenship, Religious Education, Sex and Relationship Education and Careers Guidance).
In addition, pupils choose combinations of subjects from the following curriculum areas: Creative Arts and Sports, English and Humanities, Languages and Business, Mathematics and Computing and Science and Technology.
We’re moving towards a more flexible curriculum from Year 10 onwards and there are opportunities for some pupils to study GCSE courses in one year and we provide pathways which combine GCSE courses with other forms of accreditation such as Asdan, BTEC and Diplomas. These may include ‘Life Skills’ courses, college-based and work-based learning opportunities.
