RE

Why study RE?

In our multi-cultured society religion and ethical issues are never out of the news. Respecting each other, our beliefs and how they behave is an essential life skill, whatever your job aspirations. Religious Education enables you to look critically at moral, ethical and philosophical issues. You will not only evaluate what other people believe but will explore and formulate your own ideas.

What will I study?

As part of this course you will explore Christian and Muslim perspectives but more importantly you will examine your own views on these. You will study issues such as: religion and conflict, eg attitudes to war and, issues of peace and forgiveness; religion and medicine, eg medical ethics and choices around treatment; religious expression, eg dress codes; and and authority, religion and state, eg issues of law and order.

What skills will I develop?

You will have the opportunity to develop your discussion and debating skills as you study the many different aspects of this course. There are many key transferable skills that will be useful in other subject areas and the work place alike such as  critical analysis, evaluation and report writing skills.
