History

Why study History?

“A historian looks at problems in a wide-ranging way. and is more likely to find useful solutions than any other qualified person”(The Guardian, 2000).  History is important as it develops key skills that are essential in all careers. We critically analyse and evaluate key documents, develop structured persuasive answers, study different interpretations and present our own conclusions. History provides an ideal platform for higher education and will prepare you for professions such as the police, law, journalism, the Civil Service, banking, sales and education.

What will I study?

You will study key historical events such as: Medicine through Time, the American West and Middleham Castle or The Cold War, Germany 1918 -1938, a divided union USA and Crime and policing and punishment in England c1880–1990.

What skills will I develop?

You will learn how to interpret sources, work out causes of past events and motives of the people involved. You will develop your skills of reasoning, analysis and evaluation. History will allow you to show initiative, draw conclusions and present persuasive answers.
