Music

Why study Music?

By studying Music you will have the chance to work independently with the Music that you choose. Studying Music can lead to many employment prospects including: television and/or theatre work, teaching, and careers within the music industry and retail. Many employers view a Music qualification as an indication that you have a high level of dedication and self-discipline.

What will I study?

You will study: rhythm and metre, harmony and tonality, texture and melody, timbre and dynamics, and structure and form. You will be introduced to Music you may not have heard before and you will learn how to recognise these styles and write about how they have been put together. Amongst other skills you will learn about film music, musical theatre, Rock ‘n’ Roll, how the orchestra developed, Salsa, Samba, Tango and Indian music.

What skills will I develop?

You will learn new skills in composition together with practical skills such as performing on an instrument. You will also develop transferable skills including: self-control and discipline, motivation and good independent enquiry and research techniques.
