Governing body

Welcome to the Governing Body section of our school website. I’m pleased we have this section and I hope that you’ll take a little time to learn more about us and the job we do.
The Department for Education and Science often refers to the role of governors as 'a critical friend'. I think the word 'critical' is too negative. A good friend is somebody who gives honest advice, helps, supports, encourages, challenges and celebrates success. So, I see our role as 'good' friends not 'critical' ones.
During my time as a governor, amongst many things, I have seen Brigshaw rise to the challenge of two devastating fires, seize the opportunities of Language College status and, more recently, the move to Co-operative Trust status. Throughout all the trials and tribulations, the leadership and all the staff of the school have never lost sight of the most important thing: the nurturing of our community's young people. They do this superbly and it is this that makes our role as governors such a rewarding one.
